Reconnect Participative Dance seeks to map, evaluate and, if appropriate, further develop the digital, analogue and hybrid participatory formats that have emerged in the German contemporary dance scene during the coronavirus pandemic. “Cranky Bodies Testing Ground”

The intergenerational ensemble Cranky Bodies seeks to explore what a permanent and independent organisational structure might look like in the contemporary dance sector, and how such a structure could serve as a model for other national and international dance scenes. Created as a cooperation between four dance institutions in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, tanz.nord is the first formal structure enabling dance artists from both states to collaborate. co-exisTANZ aims to boost the independent dance scene in Heidelberg. Its long-term plan is to establish an artist-led, professional rehearsal space in the city, with its own artistic programme and budget. “Space for exploration”

Supported by TANZPAKT RECONNECT, Enrico Ticconi and Ginevra Panzetti will work more intensively with their current team (made up of a production manager, tour manager, sound designer and dramaturg), independently of specific projects. The RECONNECT funding will be used to establish a flexible and sustainable company structure, both on an artistic and a production management level. DiR – Dance in Residence Brandenburg is the first networking initiative by two of the most important contemporary dance institutions in Brandenburg. As well as securing new production spaces and venues for dance artists in Potsdam and Cottbus, it will also set up new residencies for German and international artists, focusing on regions and communities that have so far had little contact with the international dance scene.

“THINK BIG! Reach out”

The upcoming THINK BIG! festival, due to take place in Munich in July 2021, will expand its programme both temporally and spatially in order to be able to react flexibly to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. Tanzerei aims to promote the integration of artists with learning difficulties in Berlin’s contemporary dance scene. Funding from TANZPAKT RECONNECT will help to make the project more permanent. New dance formats and hybrid forms of public performance will be developed, involving artists and audiences with and without disabilities and using unconventional spaces as well as traditional theatre buildings. One of the outcomes of the project will be a performance in a museum context.

The tanzhaus nrw supports urban dance in North Rhine-Westphalia, enabling dancers to work professionally. It will create the Urban Dance Lab, a multidisciplinary space for training, residencies and masterclasses. Dresden-based THE GUTS COMPANY will explore new forms of artistic collaboration and presentation, asking how audiences can continue to experience dance during the pandemic. By developing the performance format “UNIT II”, it is creating a space that is unaffected by visitor regulations, red list countries, travel restrictions or caps on audience capacity: One by one, spectators enter a mobile box where they are filmed by a 3D camera. 4fürTANZ will secure and perpetuate the structures created for the Leipzig dance scene since 2017. The funding will be used to create two new positions, both to ensure that existing projects can be continued on a long-term basis and that artists working on their own productions can receive advice and support. A new office space will serve as an administrative hub, while a dance studio will provide space for classes, workshops, rehearsals, residencies and informal sharing formats. Local artists will thus become part of an interdisciplinary network and Leipzig’s status as a nationally important place of production will be affirmed.
